Colour changes everything. It shifts our mood, transforms a room, alters how we feel in our own skin.
Sophie Malpas is a multi-media artist and creative facilitator based in St Leonards-on-Sea. Working across painting, installation, and participatory practice, her large-scale works are rooted in colour, movement, and embodied making. Through gesture, layering, and intuitive process, she creates compositions that balance playfulness with self-assurance, exploring how creativity can inspire joy, confidence, and emotional transformation.
A graduate of Falmouth University (2015), Sophie has exhibited widely across the South East, including solo shows WAKE UP & at Unit 2, Joy, Persists at Bus Stop Studios, and Reimagining at The Crown, Hastings. Her work has also appeared in group shows, public art trails, and community projects, including Follow That Duck and collaborations with Hastings International Piano and Rising Arts Agency.
Alongside her studio practice, Sophie runs workshops and collage sessions under Cut Stick Create, offering accessible spaces for experimentation and playful making without pressure. Her practice is driven by curiosity, joy, and the psychological power of colour, inviting audiences and participants alike to engage, reflect, and embrace creative exploration.

Upcoming exhibition
20 – 22 February 2026
Unit 2, St Leonards-on-Sea
WAKE UP & is Sophie’s biggest solo exhibition to date, presenting a bold body of new work spanning painting, three-dimensional elements, and site-specific installation.
Rooted in play, colour, and embodied making, the exhibition marks a deliberate step outside of the artist’s comfort zone. It is a space held between fear and excitement. An invitation to move towards expansion, risk, and possibility.
